In 2022, I spearheaded a groundbreaking change to the MTA’s open-stroller bus policy by bringing it before the executive board and rallying NYC moms through social media and cocktail parties.
What started as a pilot across 1,000+ buses, fueled by nearly four years of overwhelmingly positive public feedback, has now become a permanent citywide program. By the end of 2026, every MTA local and Select Bus Service (SBS) bus will have clearly marked open-stroller areas, making getting around the city easier and safer for parents and caregivers.

Attended today’s MTA press conference announcing the expansion of the Open Stroller Program – a big win for New York City families and a more accessible transit system.
By the end of 2026, every MTA local and Select Bus Service (SBS) bus will include clearly marked open stroller areas, making it easier, safer, and more convenient for parents and caregivers to get around the city.
The announcement, led by NYCT Transit President Demetrius Crichlow and MTA Chief Accessibility Officer Quemuel Arroyo, also featured remarks from Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal, underscoring the importance of building a transit system that works for everyone.
